A tour of interesting places in Harare city, Zimbabawe.

I have created a Google earth map for interesting places in the city of Harare, Zimbabwe. Here is an image of my map.

On the Google earth for educators' site, I found a lesson plan about Malware. Click here to access the lesson plan.
A KLM is file that expresses geographic annotation and visualization for earth. My Google earth map above is a good example of visualization given by the blue marks for places and buildings shown on the surface of the map.

A tour of the city of Harare, Zimbabwe

This activity will be suitable and fun to do with students. Students will select a theme or place to create a map. When signed into a Google account, students will go to create a map. When map pops up then students will use icons to label the map. Here a Google map that I created.

How to make a Postcard

Today I learn about making a postcard using screen cast recording. This was challenging but the key things I had to do before recording my presentation were:
1. Clean my desktop
2. Write a script
3. Determine where to save my work
4. Practice presenation

Here is my postcard presentation.

Jing has three prongs, one captures, another has the history and the last one more settings options. When I recorded my video, I selected the custom area and not the full page. This selection gave me some control over the area I was working.

Jing Image

Today I have used Jing to create the image I have always wanted to use in my music lessons about the Mbira from Zimbabwe. See image below.

Jing can create files in JPEG, PDF etc but I created my image in JPEG.  I saved my image on the desktop of my computer. I usually do this so I have quick access to my files when I need them. My desktop files are arranged into different folders.
My Jing account stores my Jing images where I log in and retrieve my work. The work that I put on my blog is open to the public. So my Jing creations are posted as pubic posts.

My diigo Library link

Jona Masiya Diigo Library

Diigo

Things are getting more and more exciting in my Ed. Tech class. Today I am learning about Diigo  This is a research tool that is used to share knowledge with friends. This tool allows users to highlight, add comments, book mark recommend tags, list tags share and organize tags.

I am a Facebook fan but I found Diigo really better in that I can create my library and do social bookmarks that I can access anywhere online. Here is an example of my Diigo group and library that I created when I installed Diigo on my computer.

Web 2.0 is different from other previous web stages because it connects my interest to web content. This is a powerful web experience and an easy way to get appropriate content from the web.

I have leaned that social book marking is a tool that enhances learning and knowledge sharing with friends and educators around the world.
Currently I use Mozilla Fire fox as my web browser. I prefer this browser over Internet Explorer. I am hoping Diigo will give me a better web experience as it now appears on my Firefox tool bar with options to bookmark, Highlight, capture, send and read items.

Self Potrait

Here is my cool portrait from Picasso.

While creating this image, I encountered problems in adding color. I figured out some color tool that was located at the bottom left of the page. My image can be found on Picasso.com by doing a search for JM Creations. Click here to go to my image. My image can also be accessed through this link http://www.picassohead.com/?id=62366b7

Resume Rezscore

Rezscore has helped me improve my resume. Initially, I uploaded my resume and got a B- and my resume was graded as good. I was on the 72nd percentile. What I found cool was that Rezscore matched my resume with job openings that are in my area. If I were searching for a job at this time I would definitely I have applied for theses were good leads. The snip above shows the results. I recreated my resume and uploaded and got an A. This tool is very important for job seekers and employers. I see myself utilizing this tool in the future.

Snipping Tool

Today I have been experimenting with the snipping tool above. I learned that this application allows me to work smart and not hard. I tried highlighting what I was reading and  underlining important ideas using the pen. I managed to save the snip and put it on my blog post.

Educational technology class is opening up new learning possibilities for me. Now I am going to take a snap shot of a YouTube video I have been watching as well as my screen that I am currently working on. This has been a fun but challenging experiment.
